4-steps skincare routine at less than $55

When it comes to skincare products or toiletries, I've a few rules that I follow:
- as best as possible, items should be free from SLS and parabens
- application should be hassle-free
- and most importantly, product must be value for money

With that, I'm going to share with you my budget 4-steps skincare routine which cost you less than $55, bearing in mind some of the products could last over a year!

1. Makeup/Sunblock Remover
>Nutive Organic Virgin Coconut Oil: $18 for 444ml

In recent years, there's been a hype surrounding the many uses of coconut oil. One of which is the use of coconut oil as a makeup remover.

What attracted me to this method were 2 reasons. One, a tub of coconut oil is cheap (I found it on qoo10 which sells a tub of 444ml oil at $18), much cheaper than some commercial makeup remover. Second, it is a natural product compared to the chemicals loaded drugstore remover.

I have been using this for close to a year now, and there is still 3/4 of oil left! Awesome money saver which works it's magic. Some people may not like the oily feeling, but I was not bothered by it. In fact, I felt it cleaned better than the commercial ones I used to have, which left my face with a squeaky weird feeling.

2. Facial Cleanser
>Eversoft: $4.50 for 100ml

Next, you can't just leave your face oily like that after the makeup remover. Another facial cleansing is required to get rid of the oily feeling.

I'm not particular about the brand of facial cleanser as long as it works it's thing. My family has been using Eversoft facial cleanser for years. The product is touted as being 100% organic. I'm not going to trust that fully, but the fact that there's no SLS, parabens and no alcohol makes it to my list. Plus, it's cheap! My favourite is the avocado flavour!

3. Toner
>Thayers: $11.90 for 355ml

When it comes to toner, I always go for alcohol-free ones. A toner is supposed to balance the pH levels of your skin after cleansing. I read that alcohol in toner could irritate our skin and cause inflammation. Also, it will strip our skin of it's natural moisturiser (whatever that means). I just trust myself to get one that is alcohol-free to be safe.

In the past, I used neutrogena's alcohol-free toner but I swtiched after I found Thayers which is more value-for-money. I stumbled upon it on qoo10 and found out that other sites sell it for $20. This is the best deal I've found so far.

I've tried the rose-petal and unscented versions for over a year. As I'm using it with my family, we finish one bottle in 2-3 months. Time for me to stock up new flavours soon!

4. Moisturiser
>Laneige Sleeping Mask: $19.90 for 70ml

I've been using this product for 6 year. Even my dad loves it. This used to a must-buy when I travelled to Korea. However, when I found out that the prices online is cheaper than what I bought in Korea, I felt stupid for lugging them back home :( I remembered paying 23,000 won for a tub! That's $25-$27? A tub can last me 6 months.

Bonus Step

5. Face Mask Sheet
>Any face mask out on the market. My ideal is preferably <$1 per sheet :) Look out for deals on qoo10 or shopee

And there you have it! Pocket-friendly products that serves it's purpose. Just count on me to source for budget buys :) If you have any affordable items, do share with me in the comments below!

(PS: the above are not sponsored. I'm not famous enough to be sponsored by any of the brands. Sincerely sharing my good lobangs with all of you :))

I finally cross $700k networth, after 1 year 4 months

I wondered how I should kickstart this post - should I be positive or negative about this? After 1 year 4 months, I finally crossed $700k in networth - returning back to where I've been at, back in Dec 2021.  I am disappointed.  For the past many years, I've always been growing my networth, at around $100-$150k/year. I had big plans to hit a net worth of $850k by December 2022, but the universe had other plans for me. Instead, I only managed to reach $646k, leaving me with a $204k gap to my target.  Ever since I became more aggressive in my "investment" portfolio in 2021, being sucked by greed to deploy most of my cash into stocks and crypto, I fell heavily, along with the crashes. Crypto wiped out 5 digits savings, so did the stock market.  To be honest, ever since the crashes and a bad hit to my net worth, I actually didn't do anything special to improve. I didn't make drastic spending cuts, I didn't stop my holidays, I didn't continue investing (no

First CPF top up in Jan 2023 and tax relief concerns

Detailing my yearly CPF top-up and thoughts.  This is my 8th year of top-up. 1. Top-up $2.5k to Medisave via Paynow Did a $2,500 top up to my Medisave, bringing it to 2023 MA ceiling of $68,500. Done the same for my husband as well. 2. On hold - To top up $5.5k to SA or no? Contrary to the past where I top-up at the start of the year, I have decided to hold off the top-up. A) Running out of cash Firstly, I'm running out of cash. I'm berating myself for degrading to the past where I look forward to my monthly income for cashflow. So I can build up my $100k capital in savings account again, given the current high interest environment.  B) Hitting FRS soon = no tax relief Secondly, I'm concerned about reaching FRS too soon.  The FRS this year is $198,800. I'm now sitting on ~$157k SA which means $41,800 away from reaching this ceiling.  I know some people encouraged maxing this out ASAP. But, as I've crossed 6 digits annual income, maxing FRS soon meant lower tax relie

Starting 2023 with extra $9,979.20

Happy 2023~! I woke up feeling not very positive. It seems like I've brought forward my 2022 negative thoughts along. I ought to be more optimistic! Anyway, my best way of welcoming the new year is to count the new inflow of $ and here's my CPF interest for 2022: Have you check your CPF interest yet?
